I believe that drawing is the foundation, basis, and jumping–off point for all of the visual arts. Throughout my career as a practicing artist, I have used drawing to flesh out and develop two– and three–dimensional ideas. I also use drawing as a way to explore ideas of form, fashion, and design. For me, the pleasure of drawing is derived from its tactility and simplicity as well as the immediacy of the process. Manipulating marks and materials directly helps to maintain the expressive quality I want in my work.
Certain high-fashion images are repeated in my series of drawings. Through limiting the focus to accessories, ie: handbags, jewelry, dresses, I concentrate on these icons and how they are employed and flaunted. This display signals a hierarchy of wealth and status. The first dress attached to the paper’s base, is an ink jet print that has been distorted and is barely is visible. The media vary from “dress portrait” to “dress portrait.” The figureless dresses give this series an intended “ghostly” appearance. The sewing machine is used as a way to attach papers and as a linear tool. There are six drawing in this series.
